Running the London Marathon

Category: Uncategorized | Date: Apr 13 2008 | By: Kimojino

Something went wrong with the website for a while there, but now we’re back.

We will give you an update later on today on what’s been happening in the Mara Triangle as we’re not guaranteed enough electricity now to write a post - we will have to wait until the power comes back on this evening.

Good luck to our fellow Kenyans and our fellow Maasai in today’s London Marathon. We wish you all the best.

William tells me to wish his sister good luck also; good luck Sarah!

Good luck to Sara! Pay Pal, however, is not running…been down since yesterday.

Joseph, please refresh my memory as to why the electricity is so sporadic? Is the Serena Lodge lending you the power? This certainly has to be very frustrating for you all.

Emmanuel just posted a message at Atamato’s blog, Pay Pal will be up and running, perhaps by Wednesday.

Hey Dana, yep you got it right. It’s because we are dependent on the nextdoor Serena Lodge for electricity. We do have batteries that used to charge up and give us about an extra 40 minutes after the electricity went off, but now the electricity is not on long enough for them to charge properly.

Emmanuel emailed me this morning about the paypal problem. I have seven minutes now before the electricity goes off to do a quick post about it!

Thank you for the encouragement. I managed to get around in one piece! I caught up with the group of four Maasai men and they were receiving the biggest cheers that I had heard all day. It was a great day (apart from the hail stones) and the atmosphere was amazing.

Well done you!

So are you back now to a diet of Pringles and Philadelphia?!

Sarah -The race must have been so difficult and especially when competing with those jaguar athleletes.Well done you completed!
Dana - We`re not actually buying electricity from Serena, and normally with many Guest at the lodge the generators runs throughout but now since they have very few tourists, they switch off most of the day. We intent to rectify this situation once we get funds.

I loved the story of the Maasai men running the marathon. It was very inspiring and made you feel good. Congratulations to you Sarah - just finishing that race is really great! Maybe one day I’ll do the New York one … and actually survive it!

I just ate a well earned pizza.

The race does a loop and you can see the elite runners pass you by on the other side of the road. It is awe inspiring to see people running that fast. Well done to Martin Lel who set the fastest record for the London Marathon course.

I saw Lel running so fast to cross the finishing line on KTN tv news.
